Join us for an evening of connecting as family and friends at the 2024 SJV Fall Family Night. Free of charge and open to families in all Catholic schools and parishes and their friends!
 
St. John Vianney Catholic School is once again partnering with Gonzaga University's Department of Counselor Education for a dynamic Family Night event on Tuesday, October 8, at 5:15 p.m. We’ll provide dinner and childcare, all you have to do is show up and enjoy the evening! 

While adults are learning and discussing, Gonzaga masters in school counseling students will engage your students in enriching and fun activities in the gym that activate the mind, body, and heart. 
 
The evening will conclude with family dinner in the parish hall. Take a night off from cooking dinner and come enjoy some family time with friends. Pre-register below to qualify for the prize drawing!
 
The evening will feature various presentations and round table discussions by Ms. Nina Moore, SJV School Counselor; Dr. Mark Young and his marriage and family counseling students; and Deacon Nick Senger, SJV School Principal. Parents and guardians will be able to choose any three of the following topics to attend:

1. Family Prayer: Looking to bring your family closer through prayer in today’s busy world? Learn about tools that can support and enhance your family’s prayer life, including easy-to-use apps that can help make prayer a natural and meaningful part of your daily routine, no matter how hectic life gets! Hosted by SJV School Principal Deacon Nick Senger
2. Circle of Security: It's never too late to work on building a stronger attachment with your child! Come learn about the "circle" all children experience of going out to explore their world and coming back in to YOU as their safe place. We will learn to notice what they are coming to us for and how to identify our "shark music" or the things that trigger us and keep us from providing our children with what they need. We will also talk through healthy repair after a rupture occurs. Hosted by SJV School Counselor Nina Moore
3. Managing Stress/Anxiety: Strategies for managing the physical responses to stress, incorporating breathing exercises. Hosted by GU Counseling Students
   
4. Time Management (including organization, scheduling homework, balancing life's demands): You are going through a hard time trying to figure out how to juggle your schedule and your busy teen’s! You feel like you’re not “doing it right.” Let’s talk about how to balance your needs and your child’s in a way that works for your whole family. Come for the strategies, stay for the empathy. Hosted by GU Counseling Students.
5. Attuning to Your Child's Emotions (and recognizing how emotions show up differently): Are you feeling overwhelmed as a parent? Are you feeling a disconnect to your child? Learn how to tap into your own emotions as well as your child’s. We will provide strategies about how to foster a healthy relationship with yourself and your child. Hosted by GU Counseling Students
6. Conflict resolution (peer to peer, sibling to sibling): Do you feel like your family is constantly fighting or in conflict? Come learn more at our presentation on conflict resolution! Our curriculum is designed to equip parents with effective tools and strategies for managing and resolving conflicts within the family. Parents will increase cohesion in their family by learning to manage sibling to sibling conflict and parent to child disagreements.
7. How to approach sensitive conversations with your children!: Our table will have an open discussion about topics parents may be hesitant to discuss, such as; body development, marital problems kids may observe, and navigating family norms/expectations around peers/social media. We understand the pressure and the anxiety these conversations can have on parents, and we hope to make this process more comfortable for you.
