Welcome to 4th Grade!

Students are welcomed into a warm, safe, and friendly environment while each one can feel special and accepted by all. God is an important part of our daily routine. He is the center of our classroom where we begin and end with prayer. Students are guided and encouraged to be more responsible citizens by leading daily prayer and participating in our Wednesday masses. 4th Grade visits the elderly at Sunshine Gardens weekly on Fridays as one of our service projects. 4th Grade is a time to be more independent by completing assignments on time, staying organized, and building good study habits. By doing these things it will help make the transition easier for the upper grades.

Content Areas

• Religion
  • Study our relationship to God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Fourth grade covers the Ten Commandments, Beatitudes, Sacraments, church, morality, Bible, prayer, obedience to God, and service to others, human growth development. Fourth grade learns how to altar serve.

• Language Arts
  • Reading (includes phonics, fluency reading strategies, whole language, and independent reading skills), spelling, writing, and speaking as a means of communication skills.

• Math
  • Simple solution (daily practice and review), expand skills in the basic facts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, problem solving, and decimals. Math is taught and reinforced with the use of manipulative activities and games.

• Social Studies
  • Understand maps, graphs, tables, and the basic historical background in the development of our nation, Washington State history, and U.S. regions.

• Science
  • Life Science
    • Animals and Ecosystems
  • Earth Science
    • Formation of the earth and space
  • Physical Science
    • Properties of matter, energy, and heat

• Art
  • The goal is to teach every child how to express himself/herself through art. The lessons are designed to use a variety of mediums.

• Physical Education
  • To develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthy physical activity.

• Music
  • Introduction to instruments (recorders), reading and notations of music, singing, pitch, rhythm, dynamic, and expression.

• During the first quarter of the school year, fourth graders will share what they are learning in Religion.
