Dear SJV Families:

The beautiful weather reminds us that the month of May is nearly here. At SJV, spring usually brings with it some of our favorite events like May Crowning and the Spring Fling Auction. Though the current situation has temporarily changed the way we do things, we are still going to celebrate these activities, but in a unique new way.

May Crowing
We invite all families to bring a flower to put in Mary's Garden this Thursday, April 30. Come by at anytime on Thursday and have your student(s) place the flower by the statue in Mary's garden. If you come between 11:00am and 1:00pm, we will have a teacher filming the students placing their flowers. We will take these video clips and edit them together into a May Crowning video that we will share with our community on Friday, May 1. We encourage children to wear their dress uniform, but it’s not required. If you’re unable to come between 11:00am and 1:00pm, you can take a picture of your child placing the flowers (please take the picture in landscape orientation) and email it to office@sjvspokane.org. Please email photos by 4pm on Thursday so we can use them in Friday’s May Crowning video. Remember to observe proper social distancing if others are around when you bring your flower. Thank you in advance for helping us honor Mary and continue this important SJV tradition.

Spring Fling Auction Moves Online

The Spring Fling Auction will also look unique this year as it moves online. While the platform will be different, the spirit of celebration and support remain constant. This special online event will take place from May 26 to May 29, and will feature some of our most popular items along with some exciting new ones. It will also include a virtual paddle raise with the opportunity for one lucky family to receive a $1000 SJV tuition credit! Look for more information in the coming days about how you can participate in this unique event that is so essential to the school.

Birthday Blessings
Tomorrow, April 29, is the day we would have celebrated at our school Mass those students with April birthdays. Even though we can’t gather in person, we still want to honor them. Stay tuned tomorrow for a special birthday blessing video for all those students who celebrated birthdays in March and April.

Be A Star for SJV!

Thank you to those families who have submitted videos sharing what makes SJV special. We are looking for as many as possible so we can edit them together to show to prospective families. To contribute, simply record a heartfelt message about what you love about SJV and email it to office@sjvspokane.org.

May Rosary with Pope Francis
Pope Francis has a special message to everyone for the month of May:

I want to encourage everyone to rediscover the beauty of praying the Rosary at home in the month of May. This can be done either as a group or individually; you can decide according to your own situations, making the most of both opportunities.

The Rosary is a wonderful prayer for families, and if you are looking for a resource to help you pray it in your household next month, remember that you can find brief recordings of all the mysteries of the Rosary on our special Lenten Rosary Video page on the school website.
